Alexandre Berman is an independent film director and writer whose work focuses on documentary, narrative projects and commissioned work for institutions and brands. He is also a member of the audiovisual commission at La Scam, the French-speaking society for non-fiction authors.

In 2017, his documentary "The Panguna Syndrome" (52 minutes, France Télévisions), co-directed with Olivier Pollet, is nominated for the Albert Londres Prize. In 2019, his feature-length documentary "Les Ombres sur la mer" (80 minutes), shot in Norway and capturing human stories of cultural and environmental heritage, is shown in cinemas as part of a new 'Connaissance du Monde' collection. In 2020, his feature documentary "Ophir" recounts a history of colonization in Papua New Guinea through the story of the people of Bougainville Island and their revolution for people, culture, and the environment. Between 2020 and 2023, the film is presented at over 130 festivals in 45 countries (Doc Edge, Durban IFF, FIFO, Wildscreen, Dharamsala IFF, Escales Documentaires, Human Rights FF Berlin, Los Angeles Asian Pacific FF…) and wins 30 international awards. In 2021-2022, "Ophir" is broadcast on France 2's creative documentary program '25 Nuances de Doc', as well as on SBS and ABC Australia, among others.

The themes of human dynamics, the environment, culture and language are at the heart of his research and writing, which he translates through a highly visual directing style, constantly interweaving the factual, the political and the poetic.

Alexandre Berman also directs films for institutions and brands. He has directed the opening film for the 2024 Francophonie Summit, held in France, at the request of the French Ministry for European and Foreign Affairs. A longstanding collaboration with L'Oréal's Research & Innovation department resulted in several 20-minute documentaries, exploring definitions of beauty around the world, all combining strong aesthetics with social themes and observations. In 2025, social housing organization Action Logement entrusted him with the direction of a 20-minute documentary titled "Au Contact", which portrays building caretakers of different generations in five French cities. These projects have won multiple awards at festivals and events such as the US International Awards, Brand Film Awards (UK), Cannes Corporate Media & TV Awards (France), the Spot Festival (France), and the Grand Prix Stratégies (France).
